Dr. Messarra is a member of Lebanese Constitutional Council, President of the UNESCO chair for comparative religions, mediation and dialogue, and President of the Saint-Joseph University's Lebanese Foundation for Permanent Civil Peace.

Dr. Messarra is a professor at the Saint Joseph University in the information and journalism faculty; he is coordinator of several programs including judiciary, democracy, the Islam-Christian relations and others.

He received his doctorate degrees in Sociology and State at the University of Strasbourg in France; his bachelor degrees in law and sociology from Beirut University de Lyon and Saint Joseph University.

Dr. Messarra is the recipient of several awards including the UNDP's Joseph and Laure Moghaizel Foundation for "Civil Peace and Human Rights", in 1997 and President Elias Hraoui: The Lebanese Pact, in 2007; and the Medallion in Administrative law from the University de Lyon.

He is married to the former Evelyn Abou Mitry and they have two grown children and two grand children. The family resides in Beirut.
